Purvakarma
During Purva Karma, the practitioner assesses the client’s dosha imbalance and selects the appropriate medicated oil or liquid.
The client lies comfortably on their back on a Droni (special massage table) with proper neck support.
The Shirodhara pot is positioned above the forehead to ensure a smooth, steady flow. A soft headband (Vartti) is tied around the forehead to protect the eyes,
and cotton is placed in the ears for comfort and safety, preparing the body and mind for the therapy.
Pradhanakarma
During the therapy, warm medicated oil is poured in a gentle, continuous stream over the forehead, slowly moving from one side to the other.
The practitioner carefully maintains the right temperature and steady flow so the liquid spreads evenly over the scalp and hair.
This process usually lasts for about 30 to 45 minutes and helps the body and mind enter a deeply relaxed, meditative state.
Paschatkarma
After the flow is completed, the client is allowed to rest for about 30 minutes so the effects of the therapy can settle in the body and mind.
Any excess oil is then gently wiped off, and a light head or shoulder massage may be given to promote relaxation. Finally,
a warm bath using medicated water is recommended to cleanse the body and enhance the benefits of the treatment.
